All That Remains

Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital

As we continue to write history today, we can to forget about the past events that have occurred. Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital, located in Kings Park, New York, was the largest psychiatric hospital of its time in American history. Several inhumane treatments, such as lobotomy, shock therapy, and medicinal experimentation on patients, were utilized which gradually led to its downfall in 1996. This facility has always been a place of personal interest, due to my curiosity for new adventures and living within the proximity of this site.

Approach

Problem

This facility and its history have been left to decay and return to the surrounding earth, eventually, it will disappear due to the government’s efforts towards burying its existence; therefore, its history needs to be acknowledged and continue to be told.

Solution

I hope to educate my audience on the history of one of the most well-known psychiatric hospitals to ever exist in America; through the use of an immersive and interactive experience.

Comparing all that remains to what once stood, through side by side photography.

This is an ongoing project…interactive experience is coming soon.
